Mark’s Top 5 Shows: #4 Blue Man Group

The Blue Man Group is probably most known for their blue body paint and making music with PVC pipes. They have resident shows in Boston, Chicago, New York, Orlando and Las Vegas as well as a touring show. The basic concept of these shows is the same, so if you have seen one of their shows you have a general idea of what to expect with the Las Vegas show.  If you are not familiar with the Blue Man Group I’d suggest checking out the DVD of their 2008 tour How To Be A Megastar Live! or visiting their YouTube pageContinue reading Mark’s Top 5 Shows: #4 Blue Man Group

Mark’s Top 5 Shows: #5 Legends In Concert

I’m starting a new series, similar to my Mark’s Top 5 Rooms series.
This one is for resident production shows.
Coming in at Number 5 on my list is Legends In Concert at the Flamingo. (NOTE: This review was written long ago when the show was at the Flamingo. As of August 2023, it in the process of moving to The Orleans)

I don’t usually like tribute or impressionist shows. Legends In Concert is the exception to that rule. I think the fact that it has switched venues, but not gone away is another testament to how good the show is.  The performers and live backing band do a great job. There is no lip-syncing or air guitar here. I was really impressed by the Michael Jackson and Elvis impersonators.   Continue reading Mark’s Top 5 Shows: #5 Legends In Concert

Mark’s Top 5 rooms in Las Vegas: #1 The Mirage Penthouse Suite

The Mirage Penthouse Suite is absolutely my favorite room. I could live here without a problem. I’ve stayed in the Penthouse a few times and even held my wedding reception there. It held 25 people for cake and cocktails quite comfortably. It has a wetbar with 2 stools, a living room space with couches and chairs for 6 and a dining table with 4 chairs (you could easily fit a few more seats at the table). When the Penthouse and Tower Suites were renovated in late 2010, they reworked the living room entertainment area to include an iPod docking station, USB and HDMI ports which allow you to connect your devices to the 52” flat screen TV.  Continue reading Mark’s Top 5 rooms in Las Vegas: #1 The Mirage Penthouse Suite

Mark’s Top 5 rooms in Las Vegas: #2 Aria Corner Suite

Coming in at number 2 on my list of Top 5 Rooms in Las Vegas is the Corner Suite at Aria.

I could live here. The space is a little tight for an extended stay, but I would find a way to make it work.
With 920 sq ft, it is one of the smaller true suites, but the space is well utilized. There is a half bath at the entryway. The living room has a sofa, coffee table, writing desk, overstuffed chair and a wet bar.  The bedroom fits a king bed, large wall mounted flat screen TV and side tables with a little room to spare. The star of the room is the bathroom. Continue reading Mark’s Top 5 rooms in Las Vegas: #2 Aria Corner Suite

Mark’s Top 5 rooms in Las Vegas: #3 Palace Tower Premium at Caesars Palace

The Palace Tower Premium is a great room.  Although the Palace Tower was built in 1997 and has been upstaged by the Augustus Tower (opened in 2005) and the Octavius Tower (opened in 2012), the Palace Tower Premium room is still one of the top rooms.  Even the more basic Palace Tower Deluxe rooms are nice, but the Palace Tower Premium adds a dual shower that connects its 2 bathrooms (one with an over-sized jacuzzi and the other with a bidet).  I’m a little bit of a pushover for elaborate bathrooms while in Las Vegas and this in one of my favorites.
